Ripley from Keith has his stone there.
They chose to mark another V.C. form the town, but from another war, to be commemorated that day also.

Mentioned Piper Laidlaw previously - it appears his stone will be unveiled in Swinton on September 25th, then that of Angus Falconer Douglas-Hamilton in Melrose the next day.

The local council would be the ones to ask - if they have chosen to order a stone. North Lanarkshire?
A location near to the Wishaw War Memorial would seem the most likely if that's where he was born????

Thanks for the reply Kenneth, the online page for the Wishaw Press had a small article a couple of weeks ago looking for relatives so I tried the email in that but it bounced back.

By coincidence I've just visited my parents and they happened to mention it, they are elders at Cambusnethan Old Parish Church and said it is being unveiled there on Friday at 11, they don't have any more details.

From a purely selfish point of view it's not ideal, the anniversary is Sunday so I planned attending (hence why I was trying to find where) Friday is more of a struggle as I need to get a day off which may not be possible now, plus it's not 100 years on. Hopefully I can make it, I'll definitely pop along on Sunday.

It looks like there'll be three memorial unveiled for Samuel Wallace VC on 20 November. The actual slab will be unveiled at Wallace's birthplace, Thornhill, but plaques will also be unveiled at Tynron and Dumfies (where Wallace spent most of his life). If anyone is interested in the itinerary then PM me.
