Ripley from Keith has his stone there.
They chose to mark another V.C. form the town, but from another war, to be commemorated that day also.

Mentioned Piper Laidlaw previously - it appears his stone will be unveiled in Swinton on September 25th, then that of Angus Falconer Douglas-Hamilton in Melrose the next day.

The local council would be the ones to ask - if they have chosen to order a stone. North Lanarkshire?
A location near to the Wishaw War Memorial would seem the most likely if that's where he was born????

Thanks for the reply Kenneth, the online page for the Wishaw Press had a small article a couple of weeks ago looking for relatives so I tried the email in that but it bounced back.

By coincidence I've just visited my parents and they happened to mention it, they are elders at Cambusnethan Old Parish Church and said it is being unveiled there on Friday at 11, they don't have any more details.

From a purely selfish point of view it's not ideal, the anniversary is Sunday so I planned attending (hence why I was trying to find where) Friday is more of a struggle as I need to get a day off which may not be possible now, plus it's not 100 years on. Hopefully I can make it, I'll definitely pop along on Sunday.

It looks like there'll be three memorial unveiled for Samuel Wallace VC on 20 November. The actual slab will be unveiled at Wallace's birthplace, Thornhill, but plaques will also be unveiled at Tynron and Dumfies (where Wallace spent most of his life). If anyone is interested in the itinerary then PM me.

I usually post NE info but I thought I'd share my reason for posting ......
David Stuart McGregor VC (16 October 1895 – 22 October 1918) was a Scottish recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.

He was 23 years old, and a lieutenant in The Royal Scots (The Lothian Regiment), British Army, attached to 29th Battalion, Machine Gun Corps during the First World War when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC.

On 22 October 1918 near Hoogemolen, Belgium, Lieutenant McGregor concealed his guns on a limber under the bank of a sunken road, but immediately the troops advanced they were subjected to such intense enfilade machine-gun fire that he realised it was impossible to get the guns carried forward without great delay. Having ordered the teams to take a safer route, he lay flat on the limber, the driver then galloped forward under the heaviest machine-gun fire to cover beyond, the guns were put into action and the advance resumed. Lieutenant McGregor continued directing the fire until he was killed.

I took the chance to visit Edinburgh to get updates from Scotland's People. So after lunch my pal and I planned to walk to our hotel. On our way there we stopped smartly kilted soldiers so I asked what are you lads up to today and they told us it was because the paving stone for David McGregor VC 100 years to the day what were the chances of that.
