Isn't it funny how people read things and understand it entirely differently.
Anne - yes. I'm very much interested in him but did you mean anyone 'other' than me?

Oh yes, I certainly know what you mean.
Mind you, in saying that, it doesn't take much to get me in a muddle at the best of times!

Asked if there were any newspaper cuttings...no
Looked at The Scotsman 12 Jan 1911 had an ad about a contest
Waverley Market, Princes St Edinburgh - Great Wrestling Contest against Tarro Myaki. Wonder if The Times might have anything? |

I also think this is the correct family and James was born Peterculter in 1885, his parents being Robert Esson and Annie Esson ms Simpson. It might he it was his father who was living at Denny circa 1917.
This family were residing at 192 Stirling Road, Dunipace in 1901 and at 6 Broad St., Denny in 1911. The address ties with the 1909 shipping info. _________________ Jim

My goodness Anne - you HAVE been busy!!
This is great - thank you very much - it's much more than I had ever expected.
Could you tell me the sources for each piece of information please? I like to be able to put source references beside all the bits and pieces.

I found a James Esson in the Gordon Highlanders giving his age as 19.
Also in the Military section there are pages of info stating served in Gordon Highlanders. He's not with the family in 1901....
He must have lied about his age.
