I'm no expert but I think that this plaque could hold some extra significance.
My attention was drawn to Leslie Richmond Snr's date of death (23rd August 1914) - which is very early.
I looked upa thread on the GWF, First & Last, which included this;
Quote: | Now the very first BEF officer (according to the late Rose Coombs) killed at the Battle of Mons is Major William Henry ABELL of the 4/Middlesex, killed on 23rd Aug 1914 age 40 and buried in 2 A 1 in St Symphorien M/C |
This may be common knowledge amongst military experts but Leslie Richmond must be one of the first 'Scottish' Officers killed surely?
Anybody got any info. on this? |

Looking up 23rd August on the SNWM gives the following names. There are four Gordons but Leslie Richmond has the date of 26th August so is not included. I assume the CWGC date is correct.
