Almost eleven years ago (I am continually amazed by the passage of time) I transcribed the unveiling report for Ardler Parish War Memorial. Part of the text read: "On the Communion table were two lovely brass flower vases presented to the church by Mr and Mrs John Weir, Glasgow, in memory of their only son, John, who fell at Proville, on 30th September, 1918".

Thanks to the good work of Hugh Macrae, and to whom thanks go for the following photographs, he contacted the minister at Meigle who located the vases within Meigle Church (Ardler long closed and converted to a private dwelling).

To the Glory of God and in loving memory of John Weir RND who fell in action at Cambrai 30th September 1918 aged 19

John Weir is commemorated in the City of Glasgow RoH with an address at 1 Grafton Square. Hugh has found the firm of Weir & Hamilton, cabinetmakers, associated with this address but, as yet, we cannot find the link to Ardler.
