SNWM misspell Clachrie Clauchrie |
Robert's father surname has changed in spelling many times over the years. Roberts parents were Robert Clachrie (formely McLauchan) and Sarah Jane Hannah who married 24/11/1898. Mother, Sarah died in 1910 and his father joined the Royal Engineers from 1914-1919 and he remarried in 30/9/1918to Sarah Wood Widow, (maiden name of Parker of Throughgate, Dunscore)
We see Robert's Uncle John Clachrie Service No 362165 KOSB's born 1890 and died in active service 20/11/1918 who is commemorated on WM's at Maxwelltown & Troqueer and Terregles.
Robert is also commemorated on the Maxwellton & Troqueer WM unveiled in June 1922 recorded as - Clachrie, Robt. Piper, KOSB.
