The newspaper gives him an officer rank, but it states he enlisted on the outbreak of war, so probably the man below.
Not on SNWM as born in Ireland and didn't serve in a Scottish regiment.
Not listed in the War Returns as not Scottish born or attested therin.

This man is mentioned on a gravestone in Currie but is not on any of the memorials in the district. His parents lived in Millerhill, Edinburgh but he is not on Danderhall and Newton Memorial. Should he be on Dunbar?

Yes I know he is on CWGC so not a non comm as such but I was asking should he be on the Dunbar Memorial as that was his birth place. He is not on Danderhall ( Millerhill) where his parents were when he died.

"Intimation has been received by his relatives in Dunbar that Private George Anderson, of the 2nd Battalion Scots Guards, has been killed. He was shot through the head in Flanders. He was 20 years of age, and enlisted in December. Previous to enlistment he was employed as a joiner with Mr Hugh White, Dunbar. He was the only son of Sergeant George Anderson, who has been at the front with the 8th Royal Scots for the past six months, and is at present home on leave."

"Private John Cross, of the 1st King's Own Scottish Borderers, was killed at the Dardanelles on June 6. He leaves a widow ad six children. He was a Reservist, and previous to being called up was for many years in the employment of Mr W.R. Cunningham, coal merchant, Dunbar."

Named on the Penpont Parish War Memorial in Dumfriesshire as:

JOHN MILES.
John Edward Myles – age 19 – Private (S/20337) 1st Battalion, Cameron Highlanders.
John served his apprenticeship as a gardener at Broxmouth Park near Dunbar, East Lothian and was employed at Drumlanrig Castle, Thornhill, Dumfriesshire when he enlisted.
Born 1897 in Dunbar, East Lothian. Son of William and Jessie (Harris) Myles of 1 Silver Street, Dunbar.
Died of Wounds on 26 September 1916 and buried in Dernancourt Communal Cemetery Extension, Somme, France.

Private John E. Myles, the Cameron Highlanders, has died of wounds in France. He was the second son of Mr Myles, gardener at Eastbarns, near Dunbar, and after serving his apprenticeship as gardener at Broxmouth Park, obtained a situation at Drumlanrig Castle.

WALTER JARDINE.

Named on the Jedburgh war memorial in Roxburghshire as:

JARDINE, WR. GUN. R. G. A.
Walter Boyd Jardine – age 47 – Gunner (96104) 200th Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery, transferred as Private (541698) to the 487th Agricultural Company of the Labour Corps.
Walter was a tailor when he enlisted in late 1915 and the 200th Battery landed in France in November 1916. Walter died of influenza in the Military Hospital at Ripon Camp in Yorkshire.
Born 1877 in Jedburgh as Walter Jardine. Son of the late John Jardine and of the late Margaret (Boyd) Jardine of Pleasance, Jedburgh.
Husband of Margaret Douglas (Hood) Jardine of 148 High Street, Dunbar (from 1925 Mrs John Moscrop of Blackburn, Chirnside, Berwickshire) who he married in 1910 in Hutton, Berwickshire.
Died on Service on 24 February 1919. and buried in Dunbar Cemetery, East Lothian. (CWG)

Adam Jardine – age 38 – Private (G/16371) 10th Battalion, Queen's Own (Royal West Kent Regiment) Died 31 July 1917.

GEORGE MACDONALD.

Named on the Melrose War Memorial in Roxburghshire as:

PRIVATE G.A. McDONALD.
George Alexander McDonald – age 24 – Private (1024) 1/8th Battalion, Royal Scots.
George had worked as a joiner in Melrose before he moved to East Lothian. He enlisted in Dunbar and landed with his battalion at La Havre in November 1914 but he was killed six months later near Festubert.
Born 1890 in North Berwick, East Lothian. Son of Robert and Jane (Durie) McDonald of Smith Street and of Albert Place, Darnick, Melrose.
Missing in Action on 16 May 1915 and named on the Le Touret Memorial, France.
Also named on the Darnick Village War Memorial.

I have been sent a page from the Herald (glasgow Herald ) for Saturday July 21st . 2021 under the heading of WAR HEROES HONOURED ON MEMORIAL ... A CENTURY AFTER THEY DIED .

The article relates the research done by HERBERT COUTTS , Chairman of the Dunbar War Memorial said that Two brothers from the town who went to Canada were casualties of the Great War and their names are now listed on the Dunbar War Memorial and another local lad also added to the memorial . The newspaper said that 20 names , 14 from the WW1 and 6 from the WW2 have been listed since 2018. (as mentioned above by Mike Morey on this site ).

The names added and reported in The Herald 21st July 2021 were the two brothers

Pte RICHARD WELSH enlisted at Vancover British Columbia and was serving with the 6th Infantry Brigade on the Western Front and fell ill in February 1919 and died aged 33 in a military hospital in Wimereux , France . Cause of death recorded is Influenza and Pheumonia attributed to active service.

His brother , WILLIAM WELSH , emigrated to Canada 3 years after his older brother and settled with his wife and 2 children in Saskatcgewan Province of Canada and enlisted in 1916 and serving with the 3rd Bn Canadian Machine Gun Corps during the battle of Mons and he was killed in action aged 37.

The researchers from the Town of Dunbar found that missing from the memorial was the name of :

SAMUEL HENDERSON who was a private with the 2/10th Cyclist Bn of the Royal Scots which spent most of its time in coastal defence duties around Berwick and Berwickshire. He died aged 23 in August 1917 at Templehall Camp, Coldingham from a Self Inflicted rifle shot injury
