Please can anyone supply with with details of Thomas Findlater.?

I am busy working on the Penpont WM in Dumfriesshire, and we have Thomas Finlater, spelt on Wm- but think should have been Findlater.

Can anyone tells me if your Thomas will be on the Penpont WM as well?


What will be link to Dumfriesshire.?

I am having book printed soon, for PenpontWM and parish war memories

As per the above inscription the Stirling Book of Remembrance is still held in the adjacent Public Library:









The book is displayed in an impressive oak case on the first floor and contains the names of the fallen as per the memorial but also includes units and addresses. Library staff turn a new page over every day. A transcript is available in the Reference Department.

(By an uncanny coincidence todays page includes Thomas Findlater, the subject of Teddy's enquiry above.)

In addition Reference Dept staff have indexed their collection of an annual magazine supplement given away with the Stirling Observer newspaper every year around Christmas. These annuals contain a round-up of significant local events for the year and a very useful obituary section. Annuals produced during both wars contain a short obituary and photo of each of the war dead. I tested this resource and within minutes had the photo and obituary of the subject I was looking for. Fuller information can thereafter be found in the archives of the actual papers.
