Well done Pat!
I can't believe he was not already named on the SNWM.
A quick search on the Project lists him on the Glasgow Academy memorial, the Merchiston Castle School memorial, the Arlington Baths memorial and on the Woodlands Church memorial in Glasgow.
The London Gazette of 23/10/1914 p.8531 has
5th Battalon- The Cameronians (Scottish Rifles); the undermentioned to be Second Lieutenants. Dated 24th October, 1914 : —
Charles Service Workman (late Cadet Lance-Corporal, Merchiston Castle School Contingent, Junior Division, Officers Training Corps).
and the LG of 14/11/1916 p.1107 has:
2nd Lt. (temp. Capt.) Charles Service Workman, Sco. Rif. and R.F.C. For conspicuous gallantry in action. He and his pilot dived down to a low altitude, attacked a train, causing many casualties, and displayed great courage and determination. _________________ Ken |
