Joseph Hill Barnett – age 19 – Piper/Private (S/3645) 11th Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.
Joseph was a gamekeeper in Durisdeer when he enlisted in Dumfries in September 1914. He landed with his battalion at Boulogne in July 1915 but was killed two months later during the battle of Loos.
Born 1895 in Ballantrae, Ayrshire. Son of Peter and Hughine Campbell (Munro) Barnett of Laggan Cottage, Ballantrae, Ayrshire.
Missing in Action on 26 September 1915 and named on the Loos Memorial, France. _________________ Ken |

Alexander W Turnbull RE Died 1920 is likely to be Alexander Walker Turnbull, 66779 Royal Engineers.
His Pension Papers indicate he was discharged with an Inflamation of the Inner Ear, aggravated by military service, on 29 April 1918. They also record his death on 6 January 1920 due to TB and Meningitis. He left a widow, Jean, living at 21 Church Street, Ayr. |
