Wigtownshire Free Press (3/10/1917): At 2nd Australian Infantry Casualty Clearance Station on 20th August, Pte Tom McGill, Australian Imperial Forces, son of Mr and Mrs James McGill, Perth, Western Australia, late of Changue, Portwilliam.

Wigtownshire Free Press (18/10/1917): Mr and Mrs McGill, Perth, Western Australia, (late of Changue, Portwilliam), have received information to the effect that their second son, Pte Tom McGill, died on 20th August from wounds received in action. Private McGill was previously wounded at Bullecourt, and had just returned to France when he was wounded. He was one of three brothers who came over with the Australian Imperial Force. One, through ill health, has been sent home to Australia, and a younger brother is in hospital in France. They are grandsons of the late Mr John Bell, Glenwhilly.

A little more on Robert Fleming (page 1) from the Wigtownshire Free Press (27/12/1917): Mrs Fleming, Creamery Cottages, Dunragit, has been officially informed that her son, Pte Robert Fleming, RSF, previously reported missing, is now presumed to have been killed in action on November 13th 1916. Pte Fleming, who joined the Army early in 1916, was previously in the emplyment of the United Creameries Ltd, Dunragit.

Wigtownshire Free Press (9/11/1916): Official intimation has been received by Mrs Heron, Barracks, Glen of Luce, that her husband, Sergeant Major J Heron, 43rd Battalion, Cameron Highlanders (Canada), late of Laigh of Sinniness, Glenluce, had been killed in action on 8th October. Sergt Heron served his apprenticeship as a joiner with Mr Sloss, Stranraer, and went to Canada over five years ago. He joined the colours shortly after the outbreak of war, and crossed with his battalion to England in June 1915. He landed in France in February 1916 and went through some heavy engagements. Sergeant Major Heron leaves a widow and two little children for whom much sympathy is felt in their bereavement.

Wigtownshire Free Press (23 January 1919) reported: Mr William Graham, Cairnhandy, Ardwell, has been informed by the War Office that his son, Pte Alex Graham, 1/5th RSF, formerly reported missing, was killed on 1st October last during action in France. Enlisting in July 1915 Pte Graham had served over two years in Egypt, and lately been transferred to France. He had not long returned to the front after a short run home on his only leave. He was in his 24th year. Before joining the Army, Pte Graham had been over five years in the employment of Mr John Fisher, Barnsallie, Glenluce. His eldest brother John joined the army in Western Australia, and was with the Australians at their first terrible landing on Gallipoli. No further news has ever been received of him, and it is feared he was either drowned or killed then.

Note: In her book "The Faithful, the Fallen and the Forgotten", Julia MacDonald asserts that the name on the memorial is a mistake with the surname and forename transposed. The is supported by the name Kennedy Ambrose appearing on the Roll of Honour contained within Glenluce Memorial Hall.

Wigtownshire Free Press (12/7/1918): Mr and Mrs Reid, Boreland, Glenluce, have received intimation that their son, Gunner James Reid, RFA, was killed in action on June 2nd by a shell, death being instantaneous. Letters of sympathy have been received from his Major and a non-commissioned officer. Gunner Reid was 27 years of age and enlisted at the outbreak of war. Prior to joining up he was employed at the Rowallan Creamery, Kilmarnock.

Wigtownshire Free Press (26/4/1917): Mrs John Templeton, Main Street, Glenluce, has received intimation that her youngest son (William) must now be presumed dead, as no information can be obtained regarding him. He was posted missing on 5th June 1916. Some four years ago Mr Templeton went to Canada, and prior to enlisting in the Canadian Infantry he held an appointment in the telephone department, Edmonton, Alberta. He was 27 years of age, and had good prospects in the country of his adoption.

Wigtownshire Free Press (9/5/1918): Mr and Mrs Watson, Drumflower, Glenluce, have received official intimation that their son, Lance Corporal William Watson, Royal Scots, has been posted missing since 22nd March. Before enlisting Lance Corporal Watson was employed with his father as a rabbit trapper. Mr and Mrs Watson have two other sons serving with the colours.

Sergeant Watson was 28 years of age and leaves a widow. Mrs Wilson's third son, Private J F Wilson, Cameron Highlanders, was also killed in action in France on 28th March last.
