Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald 26 April 1918
"NEWMILNS
PRIVATE JAMES MORTON, SEAFORTHS
(Killed)
From a comrade in the ranks there came the sad intelligence that Pte. Jas. Morton, only son of Mr John Morton, Floriston, had fallen in battle two weeks ago. Confirmation is lacking in the official sense, still it is clear that yet another of our gallant youths has made the supreme sacrifice in the great cause. The Loval Scouts was his first regiment, but in his last engagement he was attached to the Seaforths"
The record of soldiers effects shows James as attached to the Gordon Highlanders and his next of kin as father John. The record of soldiers died in the great war shows James enlisted in Glasgow.
