Named on the Dumfries War Memorial
TPR. H. MITCHELL, Q. O. REG.
Any ideas on who he might be and what Regiment?

Thanks for that Paul.
Looks like this is another "double entry" on this memorial.
On one of the KOSB panels is PTE. H. K. MITCHELL, however on CWGC he is
MITCHELL, HENRY KERR
Rank:Private
Service No:78796
Date of Death:18/11/1918
Age:21
Regiment/Service:Middlesex Regiment transf. to (153401) Labour Corps.
Grave Reference:Q. 42.
Cemetery:DUMFRIES (ST. MICHAEL'S) CEMETERY
Additional Information:Son of Francis and Lucy Mitchell; husband of Susan McGregor Mitchell, of 95, Gibson Terrace, Edinburgh. Born at Dumfries.
Reading the newspaper report it's clearly the correct guy but where "Queen's Own Regiment" came from I don't know - or why he's listed as a KOSB man?????? _________________ Ken |

interesting about the duplications
D&G Standard of 23rd Nov 1918 has obituary which reports his death on 18th and of serving with 3rd Bn Queens Own Regiment. (which is the Royal West Kents).
Also on 23rd was a report saying he had recently been transferred to the Queens Own Regiment from a labour battalion having just recently been declared fit for service. So seems like, Middlesex Regt, followed by Labour Corps followed by West Kents.
His brother Frank was killed in France 6 weeks previously.
Let me know if you want copies of these articles.

Brilliant! Thank you Paul.
When I saw he had died in Chatham, I did wonder about the RWKs but to have it confirmed is great
And I hadn't yet made the link to his brother Frank so
I've taken note of the D&G Standard dates so if I need a copy........
