Occupation : SAILMAKER & SOLDIER IN CANADIANS
Date of Birth : c. 1872
Place of Birth : STONEHAVEN
Spouse's Name : KATIE CRUICKSHANK
Date of Marriage : 28 JUN 1895
Place of Marriage : 36 LOW STREET BUCKIE
Date of Death : 25 AUG 1916 Killed in Action
I found in Ancestry one man born Fordoun who might fit but trying to find info about him seems hard.
I don't have access to Banffshire papers but the index has BA 28/9/1916 6/6 and 31/8/1916 6/6
Can anyone help with this please. |

In the 1901 census, it looks like his wife and their two young children are staying with her mother and sister in Aberdeen.
57 Albert Street, Aberdeen (Rubislaw, St Machar)
Margaret Cruickshank, 62, Head, born Banffshire, Grange
Caroline O Cruickshank, 20*, Daur, born Banffshire, Portnockie
Catherine Gault, 16**, Daur, born Banffshire, Findochty
Caroline Gault, 4, Grandaur, born Banffshire, Buckie
Joseph Gault, 2, Grandson, born Banffshire, Buckie * - age should be 30 - confirmed on SP original
** - age should be 26 - confirmed on SP original
Assuming this is the correct family group, Catherine and her two children are with her mother in the 1911 census too, in St Peter's Place, Buckie.
Was Joseph away at sea at the time of the censuses?

Very odd.
No sign of this man having served with the C.E.F. under variations of the names Gauld / Gault.
He is not listed among the Canadians at Buckie / Rathven _________________ Jim

Joseph Gault came from Stonehaven.
The death item does not assist, but mentions Canadians.
However, the other mentions his wife and children goiing out to USA a year or two ago. They were at Rathven in 1911, but Josph was not.
Still digging. _________________ Jim
