Here is what I believe are the addresses of all the memorials located in Scotland. I've not included three which are deposited in their Archive. I think they were printed rolls which were previously on display in Edinburgh.
Please note that access to some of these locations might not be possible. Certainly the Glasgow address is not accessible to the public.

Thanks, I'll add that to my post when I make it.
They've replied to my email already:

Thank you for pointing this out. I have forwarded this to our Press Officer who will be in touch in due course.

Now, how can we use this initial contact to obtain information from them? |

I think you have missed Auldgirth off the list.
I'm afraid that the Dumfries one may no longer exist - if you read between the lines on the entry there is no recent information or confirmation. I have visited Dumfries post office in the past to see if there was a memorial, a helpful guy went back inside and made some enquiries before coming back with a negative. Even if it turns out to be a lost memorial, we should still have it on the forum though.

I think the Royal Mail Archives are in Loughton (Essex) as far as I can make out. It may be possible for me to arrange a visit at some time in the future.

I've got a reply re Church iof Scotland and it doesn't make a lot of sense. If when they say country they mean England, then why are they including memorials in Scotland?
Quote: | Hi David,
Thank you for your email; your comment is appreciated. However, the press release refers to the amount of war memorials in the country, and Church of Scotland would therefore not have been taken into account.
Hope that’s of help to you. If you need any more information, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Kind regards,
Jenny Karlsson

I would draw her attention to her own signature block 'BRITISH' postal museum, not English. Since when is Scotland not included in Britain?
It makes me seethe and I was born south of the border!

Mail coming from England did not come to Scotland but NB North Britain.

Oddly enough, for years the Post Office's 'British' Philatelic office was in Edinburgh. That would be Edinburgh in the north of England then

Well there is one that is not on this list (maybe lost or maybe just overlooked). I found a newspaper article dated 4th Jan 1919 about the unveiling of a Roll of Honour at Castle Douglas Post Office. I have written to ask if they know anything about it.

I've only just come across this thread and you may already know this but;
There was a decision after WW1 (Can't remember when) not to erect formal memorials to Post Office staff who had fallen but to buy country or seaside house to be used as convalescence homes for Post Office staff recovering from illness or injury.
They were run by the Post Office Fellowship of Remembrance and had their own nursing staff. As a child (late 40's early 50's) I can recall visting my father at Friars Carse, Auldgirth, Dumfries. As far as I can remember this was the only one in Scotland.
Latterly places were offered for holidays to Post Office (and British Telecom) staff who subscribed, via pay deduction, to the Fellowship.
Eventually the properties were sold off but I know that Friars Carse still offers discounts to PO and BT pensioners. _________________ Ken |
