Could not find this one on UKNIWM, also tried the alternative spelling of Durisdeer. I can't remember exactly where the memorial is but it is a very small place so should not be difficult to find.

It is on the west side of the A702 78NS 8801, a good distance away from the village. There is another one in the village itself which I've posted separately. It lists ranks whereas this one doesn't for some reason.

Whilst visiting the Tolbooth Museum in Sanquhar, I came across a book called 'Letters of a Soldier, Private James Hendrie'. Apart from the letters, the book contains a mini roll of honour for those who appear to have been his mates prior to the war. I photographed the photos and comments about the individuals, as for the letters - you will have to visit the museum yourself as I cannot imagine that many copies were printed and probably very few survive.

I have been trying to reconcile the names in this book with those on the 2 (!) Durisdeer memorials and other local memorials. It all seems very strange.

If we take the 2 Durisdeer (or Durrisdeer) memorials and this book, then there are names in each which do not appear in the other two. I can only surmise that each was drawn up independantly of the other two and I can imagine that there was some local politics involved with perhaps opposing factions?

Here are those named in the book and the memorials that I have found their names on:

J Hendrie - Durisdeer Village and Durrisdeer
F McJannet - Durisdeer Village
J McJannet - Durisdeer Village
J Laidlaw - Durisdeer Village and Durrisdeer
J McLellan - Durisdeer Village and Durrisdeer
S Laidlaw - Durisdeer Village and Durrisdeer
D Hendrie - Durisdeer Village and Durrisdeer
A Waugh - Durisdeer Village and Durrisdeer
J McMinn - Durisdeer Village and Durrisdeer
J McCartney - Durisdeer Village and Durrisdeer
H Lockhart - Durisdeer Village
A Rogerson - Durisdeer Village
G Rogerson - Durisdeer Village
S Gibson - no local memorial
R Bryden - Durisdeer Village, Durrisdeer, Mennock, Mennock School and Sanquhar! - as he appeared on 5 memorials, I guess everyone wanted to claim him so it might be a topic for further research.

Private, 16210, Stephen Gibson, 'A' Coy., 9th KOSB is commemorated on Kirkconnel War Memorial.

No additional information on him is given by the CWGC, but SDGW states that he was born at Blacken Point, Cheshire.
