My uncle, 2928554 Sgt. John Vincent Murphy, 2nd Battalion Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders, died from wounds sustained at Monte Cassino on 10th March 1944 and is buried in Cassino Military Cemetery.

I have yet to find a memorial on which he is commemorated, is it possible that somebody can identify such a memorial and can provide a photograph.

Grateful for any assistance.

Tony

Ken
I was hoping that there may be a Regimental Memorial.
However, I have a request on WW2Talk just in case there is a memorial in LIverpool.
Thanks for your interest.
Tony

Hi Tony, no direct help but a few suggestions, send a mail to the WMT and ask them to pass it to a Regional Volunteer in Liverpool to see if they can help. Try and identify the parish church applicable to his address in Liverpool and try and track down their memorial.

Make an entry on this site http://www.wartimememoriesproject.com/ww2/allied/cameronhighlanders2.php

Finally, he might be in the Sgts picture on this page (but no names unfortunately) http://eldonspecialties.com/df/camerons/photo2.htm

good luck

\Paul

Cheers Paul

If nothing turns up I will try WMT. The Sgts. photo in Italy was interesting but blurred too much on enlargement, however the Sgt standing on the extreme right could conceivably be him but without a clearer image I won't put any money on it.

The reference to the book "Charlie Company" brought back memories, I read it some 30 years ago and contacted the author, then a retired Lieut. Colonel. He was able to tell me how my uncle died. mortar boming whilst leading his Platoon forward to relieve D Company.

Best wishes

Tony
