Sergeant (19907) John Milroy, 11th Bn. HLI is listed on the WM in Carsphairn, Kirkcudbrightshire, where his father had been the local policeman. He was born in Minnigaff in 1871 but by 1896 he was working as an engine keeper in a Bolt Works and living at Woodside Place, Motherwell. He married Agnes McCall of Park St. Wishaw and by 1901 the family were living in Orbiston St. Dalziel, Motherwell.
The Kirkcudbrightshire RoH gives his address as 317 Caledonian Rd. Wishaw - but I cannot find him in 1911.
Has anyone seen this man's name on a Lanarkshire WM or RoH?
2 reports state that he had over 20 years service with the Volunteers and the Territorials and had been retired for a year when war broke out.
Since he was 44 when he was killed I assume this means retired from the Territorials? _________________ Ken |
