CWGC Information

Name: McILROY
First name: James
Rank: Private
Regiment: London Regiment(Artists' Rifles)
Unit: 1st/28th Bn
Date of Death: 23/03/1918
Service no: 766650
Memorial reference: Bay 10
Memorial: ARRAS MEMORIAL

The record of soldiers died in the Great War shows James was resident in Carlisle and enlisted in London

James' "short service attestation" is very faded. He enlisted on 10 August 1917 in London aged 23 years 8 months. His next of kin was wife Elsie living at 38 Eldred Street then 97 Camden Rd NW1

There are entries for James in both the war and intimations databases of the Ardrossan & Saltcoats Herald which show his father as Robert of 183, Glasgow Street, Ardrossan and his wife Elsie, daughter of Srgt Major Jones, living in Carlisle

The "register of soldiers effects 1901-1929" shows James' widow Elsie received 7 pounds 19 shillings and 8 pence, including 5 pounds war gratuity.

James is also on the Ardrossan Academy Memorial
