"DEATHS
ON SERVICE
McLEISH
- Killed in action on 11th April, Sergeant Thomas McLeish, Gordon Highlanders, in his 36th year, beloved and youngest surviving son of James and Janet McLeish, 22 Winton Street, Ardrossan

He proudly answered his country's call
And gave his life to save us all;
His heart was good, his spirit brave
His resting place a soldier's grave.

Little we thought when we said good-bye
It would be the last parting between you and I.
I loved you in life, you are dear to me still,
But in grief we must bend to God's holy will.

The midnight stars are gleaming
On a grave I cannot see
Where, sleeping without dreaming.
Lies one so dear to me"
