I have updated the totals list since Lanarkshire and West Lothian were both completed yersterday. This means we now have all the civic memorials for a large part of Southern Scotland

Adam,

Today I have posted the following Angus Parish Memorials - Kirkden, Lethnot & Navar, Logie Pert, Menmuir, & Stracathro.

Looking at the Angus Parishes/Civic Memorials, the following required for completion;

ANGUS
Eassie & Nevay - Enqs. to be made within the Parish Church.
Forfar Town Hall - A thread has been started but pics of the stained glass windows reqd.
Kingoldrum - Enqs. to be made within the Parish Church.
Lochlee - This has been posted although it is a pic. from the internet? A digi photo and name panels will have to be taken. This seems like a 'summer' job!
Lundie - definately a memorial inside the church.
Monikie - I have posted the Hall but enqs reqd. to find out if there are plaques within. The Memorial Hall website only refers to plaques at Monikie & Newbigging Kirks.
Oathlaw - Parish War Memorial Windows are inside Tannadice Church.

* Of course there may be other public memorials I am not aware of + there may be churches which house WW2 memorials where the names have not been added to the Great War monuments.

DUNDEE
The Rolls of Honour are inside McManus Art Gallery which is re-opening Autumn 2008, I believe. This will then allow access to the Spanish Civil Memorial in the Peace Garden outside.

Dennyloanhead – It seems there was a WW1 Roll of Honour held in Dennyloanhead Church at one point in time. I have spoken to the Minister and to a few elderly members of the Congregation (of both Haggs and Bonnybridge Churches) but no one knows what happened to this when the church was closed. There was (or at least up until a few years ago) an existing WW2 plaque which I photographed.
(see http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=89)

A few years after the closure, the building was converted into a fireplace showroom with a house attached. It’s now in the process of being re-converted into flats. I made enquiries with the builders to see what they intended to do with this plaque and at the same time spoke to the Minister of Haggs Parish Church (who don’t have any memorials of any kind) and she said if this plaque was going to be looking for a ‘home’, she’d be delighted to take it.

The above post spurred my memory and I’m now in the process of trying to find out what has happened to it as it hasn’t gone to either Haggs or Bonnybridge Parish Churches which would seem the most obvious place to relocate.

Stenhousemuir. As far as I’m aware, the only Civic Memorial is the one which sits outside the Dobbie Hall in Larbert. (see http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=92 ) There's unpteen Churches within the Larbert/Stenhousemuir area.

Lecropt
I think must be a Church window. There’s certainly no memorial in the wee Churchyard.

Logie (Stirling) – again must be inside the Church as there’s nothing in any of the 4 Burial Grounds there.

Bonnybridge – Clock Tower? This might be their description of the WW2 Archway which is topped by a wee clock. (see http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=87 )

Anne

Thanks Anne,

Stenhousemuir covered by the CIVIC memorial at Larbert then?

I think you will be right about Bonnybridge Clock Tower.

I think Dunblane and Lecropt combined for their CIVIC memorial. This was the official title in the Perthshire 'Golden Book.

Flakirk Council's website say THEY are responsible for a War Memorial at Dennyloanhead;

A wee update:

Found and photographed Cambusbarron War Memorial, so I'll post that a.s.a.p.

Definately no Civic Memorial at Dennyloanhead.

Definately no Civic Memorial at Logie. (Photographed the internal memorials inside Logie Kirk today but haven't had a chance to either transcribe or check the quality yet.)

Drove round in circles in Tullibody after being assured that there was a War Memorial but I couldn't find hide nor hair of it. I eventually ran out of daylight hours so I'll have another go soon. I'll nip along to Fishcross & Glenochil and see what's what there too, weather permitting of course!

Another wee update! Very Happy

Found Tullibody's War Memorial - will post details a.s.a.p.

Also, found and photographed the following:

Sauchie War Memorial
Colsnaughton War Memorial

I don't think Glenochil Village has a Memorial. I drove round it and it appears only to be 'Prison' houses.

The same for Fishcross. I think Fishcross might be in with Sauchie but I haven't checked any of the names yet.

I have just pm'd Anne apologising for the double work with these memorials...... and given myself a yellow card for 'encroaching'.

Unfortunately still three for Perth & Kinross at Trinity Gask, Monzie & Forteviot (all within churches). Hopefully these will be added very soon.

I've been concentrating on the civic memorial lists lately and we have fewer than 150 memorials still to get. Unfortunately most of them are in remote places, or places which are locked such as churches and some graveyards where access is difficult. It may be some time before we get all of them.

This morning I did a quick check on the non-civic memorials and we have over 1350 of them. Combined with the 1200+ civic memorials that's gives us an impressive total of nearly 2,600 memorials on the forum.

I think we've got a large percentage of the non-civic memorials which are in public places. I'm sure there are many still to get in churches, schools, halls and club houses but these are more difficult to get because of access.

Adam,

Any chance of seeing which community memorials are still to record in one list please?
