This is one of 5 original Great War battlefield crosses, now memorials in St Ninian’s Episcopal Church, Castle Douglas at OS Map Ref: NX 765 619.

Additional information: Youngest son of Helen Mary Godfrey Wedderburn-Maxwell, of Glenlair, Dalbeattie Kirkcudbrightshire, and the late Maj. James Andrew Colville Wedderburn-Maxwell (Bengal Staff Corps). Educated at Charterhouse, formerly of Edinburgh University O.T.C.

Cemetery: DADIZEELE NEW BRITISH CEMETERY
He was only commissioned on 2nd March 1918. He was wounded near the village of Ledghem on 29th September and died two days later. He was originally buried in Townsend Farm Cemetery, Ledghem and his body was moved after the armistice to his final resting place.
He had two brothers who served in the RFA and returned. Capt John fought throughout the war, was awarded the MC and mentioned in despatches three times.
