Thomas Younger – age 40 – Private (S/4649) 9th Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders.
In 1911 Thomas was living in Bowman Forest Bothy, Eckford, Roxburghshire and was working as a forestry carter. He enlisted at Kelso in September 1914 and landed with his battalion at Boulogne in May 1915.
He was admitted to the 1st Canadian General Hospital in Etaples with sever bronchitis in February 1917 but was diagnosed with Pulmonary Phthisis (tuberculosis) and evacuated to the Keighly War Hospital in Yorkshire. Thomas was discharged from the army in March and awarded a Silver War Badge (36939) but died just over a year later.
Born 1878 in Cheswick, Ancroft, Berwick-on-Tweed, Northumberland.
Son of Andrew and Agnes (Best) Younger of Beal Farm, Beal, Kyloe, Northumberland.
Died of Pulmonary Phthisis at the family home on 28 May 1918.
His case has been submitted via the In from the Cold Project. _________________ Ken
