"Mr & Mrs Martin, Oakbank, Mid-Calder, have received official news of the death of their son, Private John Martin of the Seaforth Highlanders. He was killed in action in France. Private Martin arrived in France with the Indian contingent. He had been six years in the Army, four of which were spent in India."
