Robert Thom Harper was born on the 28th.September,1898 in Elmbank Cottage, Auchinleck. He was the son of James and Mary Harper.
Forbye the VIS-EN-ARTOIS MEMORIAL, and the Auchinleck War Memorial, L/Cpl. Harper is also remembered on his family's gravestone in Auchinleck kirkyard. |

killed in action 31st.July,1917 aged 31 years

Country: Belgium
Panel Reference: Panel 38 and 40.
William Benham appears on the 1901 census in Riccarton. Sometime between 1901 and 1911 he came to live in Auchinleck, because he is recorded on the 1911 census for Auchinleck.
He married Agnes Crawford of Market Place, Auchinleck in 1912, and seems to have lived in Auchinleck for 3 or 4 years before joining up.
Forbye the MENIN GATE MEMORIAL and the Auchinleck War Memorial, Pte.William Benham is also remembered on his wife's family's headstone in Auchinleck kirkyard. |

Additional Information:
Son of Mrs. Alice Steele Carey, of 7, Radnor St., Glasgow.
A son of John & Alice Carey.
After leaving school in Auchinleck, Thomas Carey began working as an assistant clerk at Highhouse Colliery.
A few years before the war started, the family moved to Glasgow, where Thomas began working for Messrs J.&J. Burns Ltd., ship-owners.
6 months after the outbreak of the war, Thomas joined up,
1st./6th.Batt. Highland Light Infantry. 15 months later, he transferred to the Machine Gun Corps. |

died in Ralston Red Cross Hospital, Paisley - 19th.July,1917 -
from wounds received in France
buried in Auchinleck kirkyard
Thomas Gracie Crozier was born in Main Street, Auchinleck
in September 1888, a son of Andrew & Eliza Crozier.
Thomas immigrated to Australia around 1910.
He was severely wounded in the spine at Armentieres, May 1916.
After spending time in many hospitals, both in France and U.K.,
he died of his wounds in Ralston Red Cross Hospital in Paisley. |

Andrew Grozier was born in Auchinleck in 1893, the son of
Andrew & Elizabeth Grozier.
Andrew jnr. moved to Montreal around 1913 to work with
the Canadian Pacific Railway Company.
He was killed by a shell at Passchendaele. |

William Niven Cree was born in Auchinleck in 1892, a son of
Peter & Catherine Cree(nee Niven).
He married Elizabeth Mitchell in Auchinleck in 1915.
He died on 25th.December,1918, described on his death certificate as
"Army Pensioner". |

died of wounds in France 24th.December,1916 aged 20 years
Cemetery: BAILLEUL COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION, NORD
Grave Reference: III. A. 156.
William Clark's mother and father were married in Auchinleck in 1885.
William's father died in 1901, and his mother re-married in 1903,
becoming Mrs.Watson.
His step-father also died, and his mother was back living in Auchinleck
when William was at war.
His mother died in Mauchline in 1922. |
