Named on the Mouswald Parish War Memorial in Dumfriesshire is:

WM. A. KENNEDY, PTE., H.L.I.

The only one I can find on CWGC is William A. Kennedy, Lance Corporal (26218) 16th Battalion (2nd Glasgow) Highland Light Infantry.
Date of Death: 18/11/1916
Memorial: THIEPVAL MEMORIAL

Soldiers effects names his father as Thomas C or G
SNWM gives his place of birth as St John's, Newfoundland and he is on the Canadian Virtual War Memorial and on the Newfoundland Book of Remembrance.

Beyond that I cannot find anything on him.
Any ideas?

Finally found the man I was looking for. There are only two William A Kennedys of the HLI on Soldiers effects, the man above and this one - and that's the only military record which has him as William A.

William Kennedy age 33 Private (40896) 10th/11th Battalion, Highland Light Infantry.
In 1911 William was a ploughman at Hoddom Town Farm. He was living in Ruthwell when he was was posted as Private (7868) to the Royal Scots in France but was transferred to the 17th HLI and then to the 10th/11th Battalion.
Born 1885 in Cummertrees, Dumfriesshire as William Alexander Kennedy. Son of the late William and Margaret Kennedy.
Brother of John and Samuel Kennedy who he named as his next of kin. In 1911 Samuel, 23, was in Mouswald.
(Source: Army Registers of Soldiers effects and 1911 census)
In 1891 at Cummertrees were William Kenedy 40, Margaret 33, James 13, Marion 11, John 7, William Alex. 5, and Samuel 4.
Missing in Action on 22 March 1918 and named on the Arras Memorial, France.
