Stirling Compositor reported killed – Private Robert Jenkins
It is reported that Private Robert Jenkins of the 1st Battalion A&SH has been killed in France. No official notice has been received on the subject, the information of his death having been forwarded by a comrade from the Falkirk district, who was with him in the trenches. The Falkirk man wrote home stating that 1st Battalion had recently been engaged in very heavy fighting and had been in the trenches for 36 days. He stated that Private Jenkins had been killed and asked his wife to inform the relatives. Jenkins, who joined the A&SH when the war broke out was well-known in Stirling, He was a compositor to trade and was secretary for some time of the local Trades Council. A keen bowler, he was an excellent skip and single-handed player and was long connected with the Borestone Club and latterly with Spittalmyre. For some years, he took an active part in junior football in the district and also acted on the committee of Kings Park FC. He resided in Glencoe Road and was married and leaves a widow and family. |
