Definitely no memorial at Maidens so I have removed it from the list.
I still need to get around to bringing the list up to date with links.

After a number of hours work I have finally got this list up to date, more memorials found by research and all posts linked. There are undoubtedly still memorials to be found, especially church and individual memorials.

I have started to update the Argyll & Bute WM list. One thing I noticed was that the Isle of Arran was historically in Buteshire but some memorials from there have been posted in this section. I googled Isle of Arran and it comes up either Bute or Ayrshire ?
One of the Ayrshire memorials apparently 'oustanding' was;
Kilbride (Arran), Location - Not known, Authority - North Ayrshire Isle of Arran, UKNIWM Ref No. not listed
The following villages are in Kilbride Parish, Arran;
Brodick (village)
Corrie (village)
Lamlash (village)
Lochranza (village)
A memorial has been posted for Corrie but we don't have our own pics/close ups for Brodick. I wonder if this one covers the whole parish? |

All communities are listed in their current local authority areas. Using an historic association is confusing because boundaries have changed over the years.
Arran is currently part of North Ayrshire. Bute is part of Argyll and Bute.
Cheers

Yes, I remember thats the way of it now - been down that road! I hadn't updated lists for a while and it's difficult when not familiar with a particular area.

A memorial to the men of Newton Carpet Works, Ayr takes the form of a bowling pavillion and green with a tablet in the wall of the pavillion. Located near to the site of the carpet works.
The now shut factory is still crumbling away on site at McCalls Ave, just a street away from Northfield Bowling club, so perhaps that is the bowling pavillion and green in question?

According to the booklet "Colmonell Kirkyard Monumental Inscriptions" published by the Alloway and Southern Ayrshire Family History Society, within the church there is:
A stained glass windown war memorial with 32 names on it;
A Roll of Honour;
An individual memorial to Lieut Col Pharic Alastair Grant.
If I can get access at any time I'll try and get photos. |
