Robert F. Taylor is listed on Balfron Civic Memorial as Royal Army Service Corps.
I can't find anything anywhere apart from his MIC (below).
Any suggestions?

I'm pretty sure that these are two different men.
Robert Forrester Taylor was born in Balfron in 1895 (an earlier Robert F. was born but died in 1893)
The Medal Card indicates that he served initially in the ASC but later in the Royal Fusiliers as S/68203.
However I can't find a death record for him (civil or military) so not a lot of help _________________ Ken |

Thanks for the replies.
This is the only Taylor on the Memorial - "Robert F. Taylor, R.A.S.C."
T/30637 was Richard J. Taylor, died 23rd November 1918, 1st Australian C/C Station, widow Catherine. (Effect's doc.)
According to Balfron's 'Lives Set In Stone WW1 Booklet) this Robert (F.) Taylor was the son of Andrew Love Taylor & Isabella Forrester, was born 1895 in Balfron and died 26th October 1917. The date of death was sourced from a Stirling Observer report and further family information from a Canadian relative. (I don't have access to the Stirling Observer to check the article, but even if the printed details are correct, it still doesn't help as there's nothing to verify it.)
They also write that there were 3 other serving brothers:
Alexander Taylor (born 1889, no regiment listed), survived
James joined Royal Scots Greys pre 1911, survived
William (no birth info) served RFA, seriously injured Nov 1915, Dardanelles
I found the family on Ancestry's version of the 1901 Census living in Buchanan Street, Balfron, but that's as far as I've got. As for 'public' family trees - although I have a wee look at them, unless I can verify the info contained - I usually ignore them.

Anne - fantastic that you found the newspaper article - could you send me a copy please?
I'll see what else I can find now that you've found him in the 'Effects' Register.
Thank you!

Still can't find him in either CWGC or SNWM!
His entry in the 'Effects' Register at first glance looks like 968203, but it could also be ?/68203
The handwriting isn't great.

Anne - did you use 'Gale' to access it? If so, I won't be able to get it as I don't have a sub.
As an alternative, do you have a 'print screen' facilty on your keyboard, or a snipping tool? If you have either, you can copy what's on the screen.

Got a 'Pay-as-you-go' with British Newspapers and found the article:
Still struggling to find anything on CWGC/SNWM - possibly one for the 'non-comm' section?

I use it at Aberdeen Family History. They pay for a lookup. _________________ Researching WWI info from Aberdeenshire, Banffshire, Kincardineshire & Morayshire. |
