Has anyone traced Pte John Inglis of the French army who is commemorated on the Kirkcaldy war memorial?

The book, The Register of the Fife Fallen in the Great War, Kirkcaldy and Dysart Fallen Vol I states "DoW in hospital at Torquay; Links Street, Kirkcaldy; not identified on CWGC website; Kirkcaldy War Memorial; Fife Advertiser 6 May 1916; Fife Free Press 13 May 1916; Fife Advertiser (Roll of Honour) 17 June 1916; Fife Free Press Roll of Honour 17 June 1916, Fife Free Press Roll of the brave 5 August 1916, Fife Advertiser Roll of Honour 23 November 1918"

The Fifeshire Advertiser 6 May 1916 has article
KIRKCALDY NATIVE WITH FRENCH ARMY DIES OF WOUNDS
Relations in Kirkcaldy have had the sad news that John Inglis, a native of the Links district of Kirkcaldy, has died in hospital at Torquay as the result of wounds received in action. The deceased soldier who leaves a widow, was a music hall artiste and was for a considerable time in America. When war broke out he was touring France and joined the French Army and took part in many sanguinary engagements before he received his fatal wounds. Mr Inglis's mother now resides in Glasgow but he has many relations in Kirkcaldy.

Would be interesting to find out more.

John, thanks for that. It sounds an interesting story. I wonder why, if he was serving in the French army, he died of wounds in Torquay. I wonder where he is buried.

Can't see his death registered anywhere in Devon and he is not on the French register http://www.memoiredeshommes.sga.defense.gouv.fr/en/arkotheque/client/mdh/base_morts_pour_la_france_premiere_guerre/index.php

Looks like he may have served under another name.

Ken
Thanks for this useful link, there appear to only be 2 soldiers listed as being born in Ecosse, one, Robert Anderson Montador, born in Cellardyke and killed in France in 1915, but he does not appear on the local memorials despite Montadors still living in the area today. I will post his details.

I did a web search for a John Inglis in theatre/variety/music hall, but without success.
