I have been in contact with the Archivist in London for the Scouts UK. There appears to be numerous Scouts who died during the wars and no records can be found. However we know of 2 memorials which have been traced and documented on the forums.
My request is this... if anyone knows or hears about Memorials or Rolls of Honour for Scouts can you please either record them here or let me know where they can be seen.
Your help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Don't know if this is one of the two Scout memorials you know about:
Stirling Boy Scouts (under "Stirling - Other memorials")

I do have photos but haven't got round to attempting to post them!

So there's the Stirling memorial as given above by Sandra.

Also:
Coatbridge, Giffnock, Arbroath,

The RoH database, already linked on the forum, is a great resource for both wars.

Thanks for posting that link to the Scout RoH, Derek. I've just checked it for WW1 and none of the Stirling scouts are on it.

Sandra
Thanks for that great information. With your permission, can I forward it to the Archivist in London? She would be delighted to receive it and add it to what she already has for other areas, especially Scotland.
Photos would also be good!
Kind regards
Morag.

Thanks to you also.
We already have the Coatbridge Roll of Honour and one for Larkhall which I have yet to post here.

Dont know about Giffnock or Arbroath. Might have to trawl through the Scout archive pages!

Best wishes

Capt A D Young-Herries was prominent in the scout movement http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=1935 and there are other memorials to him. Don't know if that is of any interest?

Morag, I've now posted in the Stirling Scout thread the info from CWGC etc that I've found out about the WW1 casualties - not all I'm afraid; you are welcome to forward it to the Scout archivist. Photos? well, maybe sometime on here!!

Derek, thank you for the info on James McNaught; I missed him on the Scout archives - possibly because he isn't in the Stirling Scout book of remembrance! However, he IS on the Stirling War Memorial only I couldn't find anything about him; now I have a date of death I'm off to look again!!

2nd part: got him!! Stirling RoH had Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders instead of Royal Highlanders which was why I couldn't find him. He was one of the names "parked" to look at later. Thanks again Derek.

Morag
This appears in the Stirling Observer 8th May 1917:
Private James Kerr, Army Cyclist Corps, eldest son of Mr and Mrs M Kerr, 44 Broad Street, Stirling was killed in action in Egypt on 19th April. He was an apprentice engineer at St Rollox Works, Caledonian Railway, Glasgow. He was in the Catholic Troop of Boy Scouts in Stirling.
I knew there was a Catholic Troop at the time of WW2 as there is a page of the Book of Remembrance devoted to the casualties from then but there is no indication that there was a Catholic Troop before WW1. James Kerr is not recorded in the Book of Remembrance but the book had clearly been prepared after 1945; it is a leather-bound book with only one page devoted to casualties from WW1. There may well have been other casualties from his troop.
He is commemorated on the Stirling War Memorial.

Interesting to see his original service number (100) and that he served at Gallipoli (2B - 28 July 1915)

I don't think he is on the Caledonia Railway memorial in the Central Station but......

Morag, I found an interesting piece about a Callander Scout memorial in the Stirling Observer today (while looking for something else at the library!) I've posted it under Stirling and Central Scotland - other memorials
