Derek,
He`s on both the St Andrews University Memorial and their printed Roll of Honour book.He is also on Glenalmond College.
The People`s Journal of 9th September 1916 has details and a pic.
He is also one of the "missing" from Dundee High School who are currently not on their Memorial.
I also think that i know one of his family so i`ll see what else there may be.
If you need any of this send me a pm
Cheers
Hugh |

Hugh,
Thank you for the extra info that I think has helped me establish who this Officer was:
His portrait from St.Andrew's Uni Roll Of Honour book which you suggested:
And a photo from "Hawick and the War" showing a Lt. Cunningham, 2/4th Bn. Black Watch, winning a 6 mile cross-country run at Hawick in April 1915:
Very similar I would suggest?
Anne, thank you for your info which has helped me pad out Robert's info. _________________

Derek ,
maybe you know this already but ..........
Robert Cox Cunningham is listed on the War Memorial of the UNIVERSITY COLLEGE DUNDEE and on its replacement one in the new tower section of Dundee University .
Listed in the Officers of the Black watch page 31
CUNNINGHAM , R.C.; MC., (TF ), 4th City of Dundee Bn ; 2 Lieut 14/11/1914 ; KILLED IN ACTION with 4th /5th Bn as CAPT 3 /9/1916
Seems that Robert Cox Cunningham had not been a member of the St Andrews University OTC during his time at the Uni when he studied Law .

Pat & Mark,
Thank you both very much indeed for the information.
I'm quite sure that the officer photographed running at Hawick is Robert.
Here he is being awarded the first prize by the Duchess of Montrose on the steps of Hawick's Wilton Lodge Museum.
(Mark: page 23 of "Hawick & The War")

The University of St Andrews - Roll of honour and Roll of Service has the photo - head and shoulders only of RC Cunningham on page 4 (opposite ) and an entry on the roll of honour page 5
viz:
ROBERT COCKS CUNNINGHAM , Student in Law , 1908, MC, Chartered accountant , London. Captain 5th(City of Dundee ) Battalion , The Black Watch (Royal Highlanders ) . Born 19 November 1884 . Reported "missing " now presumed killed in action , near Beaucourt- Hamel in the valley of the Ancre river , on 3rd September 1916.
Awarded the Military Cross on 3rd June 1916, for very gallant work in carrying in a wounded officer for a considerable distance under very heavy fire a Mauquissart on 25th September 1915, and afterwards as only officer left with the battalion showing considerable ability in rallying the men.
Also listed on page 41
Cunningham , Robert Cocks , 1908 , MC, chartered accountant , London, Captain 4th Black Watch , see Roll of honour
Patrick w Anderson
As you say that photo of an officer in Hawick looks like Capt Cunningham MC
