Stuart and I may have another non-com from the Maxwelltown WM

Born 3/1/1898 at Windermere Cottage, Annan, he enlisted 21/11/1914 as Pte. 2527 2/5th KOSB giving this address as his residence. Posted for overseas service August 1916 as Pte. 40198 with the 2nd and later the 1/5th Battalions. He was wounded 18/10/1916 while with the 2nd KOSB.
On 12/1/1917 as Pte. 2nd KOSB he married Sarah Jane Murray Morby in Troqueer Manse.
He was discharged from the 1/5th on 8/10/1918 Physically unfit -Tubercule of lung (WO364 exists)
He died at home at 9 Observatory Terrace, Maxwelltown on 28/6/1919 aged 21 of Pulmenary Tuberculosis. He is shown as an Insurance agent married to Sarah Jane Murray Morby.
The civilian details are from me, the military records are from Stuart Wilson. _________________ Ken

As Ken was aware, I had some valid concerns about whether the records provided the required level of detail.
I put a particularly detailed case together and submitted it for consideration during last week.
I can now confirm that it passed the 1st check and that 40198 William Johnstone Graham 1st/5th K.O.S.B. has been forwarded as a case, on Ken's behalf, to CWGC / MOD as a non comm death due to service related causes ( Pulmonary Tuberculosis ). His details are now in the system.
Well done both in finding him.
We now need to locate his grave and know that Ken is on the hunt for it. _________________ Jim

I would have expected him to be buried in Troqueer or St Andrews (catholic) but I didn't come across his grave when I photographed both locations - doesn't mean it's not there though.
Also not one of the surviving stones in the disused Holy Cross catholic cemetery in Dumfries (not yet posted on SWGP).

I've found Death Notices for William in both the D&G Standard and in the Annandale Observer but neither has a Funeral Notice.
As far as I can discover, he's not buried in Annan so I have asked the Council for a search in Troqueer. _________________ Ken |

Sadly searches of the lair records for both Troqueer and Annan did not reveal William's burial place. His parents and others of his family are buried in Annan (his father died in April 1919 just a couple of months before William)
A search of Grave Inscriptions by the people at the Dumfries Archives Centre and at the Reference Library (and me) has found neither his name nor his wife's family in any of the Dumfries Cemeteries.
So it looks like this will be one for the 1914 - 1918 Memorial. _________________ Ken |
