A bit more info:
Sam died at his mother's family home in Kildonnan, Stoneykirk, Wigtownshire of a brain tumour. He is shown as a medical student but there is no mention of any military service - so I assume that he had been discharged from the army.
He is listed on the Stoneykirk Parish War Memorial and, thanks to Julia C. Macdonald's excellent book on Wigtownshire Memorials, I know that he was born at Gilnockie Schoolhouse where his father, John, was schoolmaster. _________________ Ken |

Ken
I will check this later. The surname rings a bell !
Can you send me the death registration?
Update - I checked him out a couple of years ago. He resigned his commission due to ill health, not caused by his service, in 1915
There is no link between leaving service and death three years later. _________________ Jim
