Irvine Herald 27 October 1916
"Perceton Lad Killed, and Awarded D.C.M. - News has come to hand that Pte. William Logan, Cameron Highlanders, who was born at Perceton 26 years ago, was killed in action by a shell on the evening of October 9th. His captain sent a letter since stating that he had been recommended for an honour, as he had done magnificently in an engagement on 19th September, and on the day he was killed notice was received that he had been awarded the D.C.M. He resided with his grandfather, Wm. Logan, enginekeeper, and attended Dreghorn Primary School whilst staying at Perceton and later at Dreghorn. They removed to Motherwell about seven years ago, and he was employed as a motor driver before enlisting. The news of his death upset the old man so much that he had to be taken to hospital, where he is not expected to survive"

CAMERON HIGHLANDERS
James McKeand, age 25 – Private (S/20470) 1st Battalion, Cameron Highlanders.
James was employed at the Motherwell Bridge Company when he enlisted in there in September 1914 as Private (4096) in the Gordon Highlanders. He gave his next of kin as his father William of 8 Wallace Street, Dumfries. However one month later he was discharged due to defective teeth. He obviously reapplied and was accepted by the Camerons. He reportedly had almost 4 years of service, 3 of those in France. He was gassed in March 1918 and had only just returned to France when he was killed.
