I found on St Joseph's College, Dumfries Edward Byrne and on his medal card there is an Edinburgh address. His Will also has an Edinburgh address.
His name is on Aberdeen St Mary's Cathedral Memorial.
I can't find anything on his parents. He was 35 when killed in action 12 March 1917 no info in additional information on CWGC. He was buried in Cabaret-Rouge British Cemetery.
Can anyone find info on him?

Wow, interesting man you found.

He was shot down by the Red Baron himself. This was Baron Von Richthofen's 26th Victory.

12.3.1917
2Lt J Smyth and 2Lt E G Byrne, 2 Sqn, Kia in BE2d 6232, WF (while flying?)

Source, Airmen died in the great war.

The Von Richthofen link is via google to several book reviews.

Note that CWGC gives date of death one day earlier (11th).

Now with a second initial (G) you might have a better chance of finding him. The only Edward G I could find in a quick look is in Liverpool age 5 in the 1891 census.

Certainly not listed on any Dumfries and Galloway civic memorial.

St Joseph's is a catholic school. In my experience catholic churches very rarely have a war memorial so I doubt you will find him on a church memorial.

I have a contact at St Joseph's ex-pupil's association if you would like it.

Good luck

There is a 2nd Lt E Byrne on the Sacred Heart, Edinburgh war memorial.
Photos are on under the Edinburgh churches.
Might be something in local papers around that date.

I did hear from another researcher that he was shot down by The Red Barron. I missed that out to see if it could be confirmed. He did not have a source.
Thanks for the help...

'Talking with the Red Baron' - book available on Amazon and you can find the bit if you go to Amazon, find the book and search for Byrne.

Date given as 11th March - Givenchy shot down east of the line south of La Folie Wood. With other info. I does say Von Richthofen.
