I've only been able to find out the very basic information about this man and can't make a clear link to why he should be on Wigtown War Memorial. Can anyone add to what I have?

Regiment: D Battery, 64 Brigade, Royal Field Artillery
Son of William and Jane Irvine, 19 St John Street, Wigtown.
Died 3 September 1917 aged 39.

This detail might well indicate he lived there.

Jim

My louse-up there - it's actually St John St in Whithorn. Senior moment, I'm afraid. However, Ken has identified that Irvine did live in Wigtown so I'll have to check the census. At the age of 39 one would suspect he'd have married and have family.
