Pte. FREDERICK LAW is listed on the Penninghame Parish WM in Newton Stewart, (D&G) and I'm looking for help in tracking his military record.
In 1911, aged 24, and in 1901 , aged 15, he was living with his Aunt Sarah (Law) and her husband George Maxwell in Newton Stewart. He was born in England.
(Also there was his grandmother Bridget Law, born c.1840 in Ireland)
In 1891 aged 5 he was living in NS with his grandfather James Law and his aunt Sarah.
In 1881 James and Bridget with their children Thomas 16, Mary 14 and Sarah 12 were in Arthur St. NS - so it looks as though Frederick was the son of Thomas or Mary, but I cannot identify his birth.
Could some kind soul trawl SDGW for enlistment places, please?
(There's no F or Fred or Frederick obviously resident in Wigtownshire)

Hi Ken,

From SDGW on Ancestry:

Name: Frederick Law
Birth Place: Kirkdale, Lancs
Residence: Liverpool
Enlistment Location: Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire
Death Date: 31 Oct 1914
Death Location: France & Flanders
Rank: Private
Regiment: Royal Scots Fusiliers
Battalion: 2nd Battalion
Number: 6507

His MIC states landed in France on 6 Oct 1914, so an early reinforcement. I think that this date in conjunction with his RSF number suggests that he was a pre-war 3rd Special Reserve enlistment (#6498 enlisted 31/12/1912 at Kilmarnock; #6509 enlisted 15/01/1913 at Edinburgh) which would fit with the enlistment location given on SDGW.

Stuart
