This Forfar academy war memorial to the Great War casualties and the WW2 Memorials were obviously initially located in the old Forfar Academy and moved to the concrete 1960s building where they are at present . The two war memorials are on the stairway from the main entrance area of the school . When I visited the Academy there was a Wreath placed at the War Memorial from the school so the former Casualties are remembered

I have just received a copy of the school`s Roll of Honour booklet, produced by Andrew Nicoll in 1996.
I have been able to fill in a few gaps but wonder if the sleuths can find the following:
GORDON DUNCAN
JOHN ADAMSON Sergeant Canadians?
JAMES ANDERSON Private Royal Scots?
I plan to post photos of the booklet on the Forum in due course. |

I'm not sure if you can produce scans of the booklet here on the forum, I think it will still be in copyright, unless Andrew has given permission for it to be reproduced.
I spoke with Andrew last year about his booklet, and at the time I had identified some (if not all) of the "missing" men he had been unable to locate. I'll check my records and see what I can find. |

David,
Point taken. If you are in touch with Andrew perhaps you can ask him if he is ok with putting his info on the Forum as he only printed 50 copies so it is not widely available. He may,of course,be planning an updated version, using your new info?
If you wish me to approach him please send me his contact details in a PM
Thanks

There are several of these triptych memorials in Northumberland. The North East War Memorials Project says they are from the wood of the former Royal Navy training ship Britannia which was broken up in Blyth, Northumberland in 1917.

Bringing this back up, but I spoke with Andrew Nicol recently. He has tentative plans to perhaps update his book at some point, but nothing definite as it depends on other commitments.
I also will not be posting any scans of his book as he retains the copyright on it. |

I presume that this war memorial is now located In the NEW FORFAR ACADEMY on the A926 road from Forfar to Kirriemuir
This will be the 3rd move of the war memorial from the original Academy in the town
