I was contacted by a relative of Robert Hill who was a Gateshead Borough policeman and was killed in action during the 1st WW while serving with the RGA. I passed on his history and a photograph of the police war memorial where his name is recorded.
Robert's brother David Hill was an Edinburgh City policeman and joined up in 1915 as Pte S/18675 Cameron Highlanders, and was killed in action on 13.8.1916.
I have checked on the SWMP but cannot find any mention of an Edinburgh City Police war memorial, does one exist, and if it does, is it possible to get a photograph for his relative.

I don't think there was a memorial to all the City of Edinburgh policemen who died in the war. I haven't found one or a reference to one.
The City Council prepared a Roll of Honour for the men and women who worked for the corporation who died and that included the police. David Hill should be on that.
I have found references to two Police Divisions which erected memorials but I don't know if they had names.
Alastair McEwen may have been in touch with Lothian and Borders Police about memorials / Rolls. I will contact him and see if he has any more information.
Thanks

A few Edinburgh area Police war memorials are shown here at the Lothians & Border Police pages as well as these incomplete lists of WW1 and WW2 police who served.

Thanks for the link to the police war memorials, it is possible that the PC D Hill recorded on the Edinburgh memorial dedicated to D Division, West End is the man I was looking for.
