Robert Halliday is listed on the Terregles WM (Dumfries) as Motor Ambulance Driver.

would he have qualified for inclusion on the Debt of Honour Register?
The only man I could find who might "fit" is Piper (S2177) of the Seaforths who died on 2/10/1915. _________________ Ken |

Ken
Looking at the list of names I see Robert Halliday is the only one who isn't given a rank which suggests to me he was a civilian ambulance driver rather than someone in the ASC or RAMC.

I suspect Adam is correct on this one, he may even have died at Home.
if a civilian, he could have qualified for war dead status if he died overseas and he was a member of one of the recognised civilian organisations. That said, he would have had to have died due to enemy action ( or consequences thereof) and no other cause. _________________ Jim

Adam and Jim - you were both correct (but just remember nobody likes a smarty pants)
Robert Dickson Halliday, a chauffeur, joined the British Red Cross just after the outbreak of war and was based at Rouen Hospital conveying wounded between field and base hospitals. He became ill and was evacuated to Bridge of Weir Sanitorium where he died in July 1916.
A native of Dunscore, he is buried in the churchyard there.
Cheers guys. _________________ Ken |

That sort of thing makes life very difficult when trying to identify names. I wonder why he was listed as that.
