My late father ATE Duncan, born Feb. 1923 attended Glasgow High School. His best friend was Gordon Walker. Whilst my father joined the TA after leaving school, all I know about Gordon is that he was killed in an aeroplane during the War. His grave is somewhere in Scotland but I do not know where. He had a sister called Audrey who I met as a small boy, from memory she worked for Mars at Slough.
I have found a Sgt. Gordon Boyd Walker RAFVR 9TH Sqd., died 07/04/43 on the Roll of Honour for The High School of Glasgow and I am hoping someone can tell me if I have the right man. If I have, he would be around 20 years of age when he was killed. It would mean a lot to me to find out how and where he died as well as where his final resting place is.
I regularly curse myself for not having found all this out while Dad was still alive, but I have always made a habit of being late. I was supposed to have been born on Remembrance Day, 11th November 1951 but held off putting in an appearance until nearly two weeks later. Now I am several years too late, unless someone out there can help me. |

Just to say a huge thank you for your posts. I have learnt more about Gordon Walker in four hours than I had in all of my lifetime. Please keep any other details of him coming in if anyone out there has them.
Kind regards
Gordon Duncan |

Just checked our "sister" Project - Scottish War Graves
http://scottishwargraves.phpbbweb.com/scottishwargraves-ftopic958.html&highlight=mearns
and found that Gordon's brother John Ian Russell Walker, Sub-Lt. RNVR was killed 27/3/1943 when the escort carrier HMS Dasher exploded and sank in the Firth of Clyde. The brothers are buried together but no photo of the grave. _________________ Ken |

Gordon Boyd Walker:
Photo from the High School of Glasgow Roll of Honour. I wasn't sure if you'd seen this. The book also has a photo of his brother, as well as some biographical information about them both. |
