I'm struggling to find info on this casualty.
Here's only given a brief mention in the Arbroath & District Roll of Honour. (see below).
Upon the Guthrie RoH and memorial there's some confusion about his forename. Is is Edward or begin with an 'A'?
RoH.
Guthrie Memorial.
I've tried lots of CWGC/SNWM combinations as well as ScotlandPeople war returns with no success.
Any ideas folks? |

I think he is most probably Eustace Edward Goodman and was known by his middle name.
Born 2nd qtr 1881, Hassop, Bakewell, Derbyshire; son of John and Sarah
MIC gives Eustace E Goodman, S/18879 Royal Highlanders; S/41292Gordon Highlanders
CWGC

Thanks Stuart.
I had a feeling he was not originally from the Angus area, the surname is pretty uncommon for here.
Cheers,
Derek. |

Eustace E. Goodman of the Gordons turns up in the ScotlandsPeople war returns.
It says he was born in Perth, so not England then?
Cheers,
Derek. |

Derek
It does not state where he was born, only where he enlisted.

Ah, I see. Thanks for that Jim.
So war returns on ScotlandsPeople include too those born abroad that enlisted in Scotland? I thought only those born in Scotland were in the returns.

They are Regimental returns and am not sure they would differentiate on birthplace. I had not noticed before an English born case, but the form simply has " Scotland " for Country of Birth in most of the others listed. This is usual. _________________ Jim
