Surely the Cenotaph in George Square serves the same purpose?
Is there a significance to it being at Knightswood Cross do you know?
Thanks

My thinking too.
I suppose enough people must have thought it a necessary addition. |

Is it a war memorial then? I think not. If commemorating VE day, fair enough. _________________ Jim

We have plenty of memorials here that commemorate the men who served and weren't killed.
So no, possibly not a "war memorial" in the strictest sense, but still eligible for inclusion here. |

A memorial to servicemen who died in past conflicts, that sounds like a war memorial to me.
Jim's last comment may provide an answer. Perhaps it's there as a focus for a Thanksgiving Service on 8th May rather than a memorial for a Remembrance Service on 11th November?
Any suggestions for why it is located at Knightswood Cross? Was that a spare bit of land needing some landscaping by Glasgow City Council or is there any military significance to the site?
Cheers

Adam
War Memorial
" a large structure, made especially of stone, which is built in honour of those people who died in a particular war "
It was the reference to living servicemen and future conflicts which intrigued me.
Like you, I wonder what will be it's role on Armistice Day? _________________ Jim

I now notice that it also commemorates members of the Mecantile Marine. It is a civilian service they are not members of the armed services. _________________ Jim
