Thanks for the update. I take it he is Hendry in the 1901 census then and that has been a transcription error?
I think you would have to jump through hoops with all sorts of paper work to get the SNWM & CWGC databases updated which is a shame since it doesn't give his true name.
Luckily neither Aberdeenshire war memorial gives his first name, only his initial so no issues there and at least here on this forum the record can be set straight.

Thanks Adam,
I have copies of Hendry's birth certificate and 1901 census which confirms the spelling.
I contacted CWGC a few years ago to update information including his age which is also not recorded, but it was going to be a long process with various documents requested for verification. I may get back to doing this sometime, but my focus has more recently been on finding out more of his last days culminating in my visit to his final resting place next week.
