The 5th Battalion Gordon Highlanders memorial in Kirk Street, Peterhead.
Sorry about the quality of the photograph of the bronze panel which was in a fairly sorry state when I last visited. Hopefully it will have been cleaned up since then.

The 5th Bn Gordon Highlanders formed three battalions in the Great War.

1/5th Bn The local Territorial Force battalion formed in 1908 from the Rifle Volunteers. In May 1915 it arrived in France in 153rd Brigade, 51st (Highland) Division. In February 1918 it moved to 183rd Brigade, 61st Division. In June 1918 it moved again to replace the 8/10th Bn Gordon Highlanders in 44th Brigade, 15th (Scottish) Division. [It absorbed the men of the 8/10th Bn Gordon Highlanders which was later disbanded in August 1918. (The 8/10th Bn had been formed in 1916 when the 8th and 10th Service Bns amalgamated)].

2/5th Bn. A second line battalion formed for UK service in 1914. It absorbed the 2/4th Bn in 1915 and it was disbanded in 1918.

3/5th Bn . A third line unit formed in early 1915 to provide recruits for the 1/5th and 2/5th Battalions. It was later absorbed into the 4th (Reserve) Bn Gordon Highlanders
