Excellent website! I came across it when I was looking at to see if there was anything new on the web about the Auchencloy Martyrs Monument in the Galloway Hills, which was built by my great-great-geat grandfather John Stewart. Good to see there was - its been a couple of years since I've been up there and it looks like it might become visible again with the cutting down of the trees.
I've a few bits and pieces from Galloway, so hopefully I'll be able to input once I've got past the 5 postings.
Cheers

Another Glass saying hello.
Don't think we are related Jim.
Just new although I think a couple of my photos have been posted by David.
Great site full of very interesting information. |

Hi Both, Sorry I missed your 'hello' mail Jim. It was I who posted the Auchencloy monument - I live a few miles away in Dalry. If you are not a regular visitor, the only vehicle access from Raiders road is now via Barney Water (marked no entry!) as the stream crossing further North is now impassable to ordinary vehicles. Alternatively, you can go on foot and you will need a pair of stout wellies if the stream level is high. If you go on a Sunday (when the logging is not active) you can do what I did with my 4WD, and go through the no entry, around the logging roads and come at it from the West. This is the side that has been clear felled but crossing the freshly logged ground is difficult and I suggest stout boots and a companion for safety - there is no mobile phone coverage.
Anything you need in this area, just let me know.
