LOCHGELLY R.N.D. MAN KILLED IN ACTION.
News has been received in Dundee that Petty-Officer John Cairns, Royal Naval Division, has been killed in action.
Cairns was a Lochgelly man, and prior to going to the western front served at the Dardanelles. Two brothers are serving, one of them, a Black Watch man, having been wounded.

LOCHGELLY SOLDIERS FALL IN ACTION.
Mrs Grant, Melville Street, Lochgelly, has been officially notified that her son, Private Wm. Lithgow, Royal Highlanders, who has been missing since the battle of Loos, is now reported killed. He enlisted in August, 1914.
Private Robert Watson, Royal Highlanders, is in hospital, having lost his hearing and speech. Private Edward Smith, Camerons, is in hospital with an injured hand. Private Robert M'Lean, Black Watch, has been wounded in the back. Private Peter Kirk. Black Watch, has had his right hand injured with an explosive bullet; and Private J. Nelson, Highland Light Infantry, has been admitted to hospital suffering from gunshot wounds in the left leg.

WELL-KNOWN LOCHGELLY SOLDIER KILLED.
News has been received that Private Jack Mitchell, A. and S. Highlanders, a Lochgelly man, has been killed in action. Pte. Mitchell, who is a son of Mr John Mitchell, manager of Lochgelly Co-Operative Society, enlisted in November, 1915. He was employed in the office of Lochgelly Iron and Coal Company, and was well known in the district. He was enthusiastic member of the Y.M.C.A. and Bible Class.

CASUALTIES AMONG LOCHGELLY SOLDIERS.
Mrs Nelson, 15 Hunter Street, Lochgelly, has received intimation that her son, Corporal A. G. Nelson, Gordon Highlanders, has been killed in action. Corpl. Nelson, whose photo we reproduce, was previously wounded, and returned to the firing line on 20th June. His three brothers are serving.
Information has also been received that Private James Burke, Connaught Rangers, Lochgelly, has been wounded. Private Thomas Simpson, Black Watch, Hunter Street, Lochgelly has been seriously wounded, and has had one leg amputated. Corporal Clark, Black Watch, has also been wounded. A brother was lost with the Invincible.

Lochgelly Airman Believed Killed
Mr and Mrs Sweeney, 14 Mid Street, Lochgelly, have received official intimation that their only son Sergeant Wireless Operator Michael Sweeney, who was reported missing on June 26, is now believed killed on that date.

Sergeant Sweeney was former pupil of St Columba's R.C. High School, Cowdenbeath, and before enlisting was employed as a clerk with Messrs Barry Ostlere & Shepherd, Linoleum Works, Kirkcaldy.

A request was received in the SMRG Mailbox by the Gt. Gt Grand-daughter of Pte. George Spence listed on the Lochgelly Memorial as as we didn't have anything about him, I found the following and sent it to the lady in question:

Named on the Elphinstone Village War Memorial in Tranent Parish, East Lothian as:

PVT. Jn. CROOKSTONE 1/8 R. S.
John Rankine Crookston â€“ age 27 â€“ Private (5137) 1/8th Battalion, Royal Scots.
John was a miner with the Lothian Coal Company and was living in Newtongrange, Cockpen, Midlothian when he enlisted as Private (4230) in the Territorial 8th Royal Scots in June 1908. He was discharged at the end of his term in June 1912. John re-enlisted in January 1915 and joined his battalion in France in September 1915.
Born 1889 in Elphinstone, Tranent. Son of Andrew and Agnes Robertson (Rankine) of Newbattle and Cockpen, Midlothian. Husband of Mary Morriel (Reid) Crookston of Reid's Terrace, Lochgelly, Fife who he married in 1910 in Newbattle, Midlothian.
Killed in Action on 22 July 1916 and â€œBelieved to be buried in this cemeteryâ€ Dantzig Alley British Cemetery, Mametz, France. (Sp. Mem. 14)
