This one may need a bit more digging to obtain enough information to put forward.
Buried in the Western Necropolis in Glasgow, inscription reads:
Captain JOHN FRASER STEVEN, R.A.M.C., born 21st February 1880 died 4th July 1919
D.S.O., M.A., B.Sc., M.B., Ch.B.
Husband of Gladys Fraser
I've found him on the Scottish Calendar of Confirmations and Inventories, which states:
| Quote: | | STEVEN, John Fraser. D.S.O. Physician and Surgeon, 43 Landsdowne Crescent, Glasgow, Capt., R.A.M.C., died 4 July 1919, at Glasgow, testate. Confirmation granted at Glasgow, 4 February, to Elizabeth Mary Gladys Fraser or Steven, his widow, Executrix nominated in Will or Deed, dated 29 February 1916, and recorded in Court Books of Commissariot of Lanark, 27 February 1920. Value of Estate, £1858, 13s, 1d. |
Awarded the DSO in 1916. There is a Pension Card for him but like most of the ones for Officers it's quite bare - notes that his widow is the dependant, but not much else.
Death Certificate note he was an army pensioner - so that would probably make it unlikely he fits the criteria for inclusion - could someone confirm that, or would we need to check his service record to be sure?
DC also notes he died in Gartnavel Asylum of general paralysis after one year - possibly need to find when he was discharged and why?

There was a similar case detailed here:

It looks as though his service record would be required but it probably will not have been digitised and will need to be read at Kew - whenever the National Archives reopen!

| I agree Ken, this one will have to wait until it can be arranged for someone to obtain the service record, and hopefully the details on it match some of what I already have. |

If someone can derive a TNA reference for his service record I have a local contact who can call in to TNA in due course to check.
However I think, from looking at Discovery, that his service record may be among the 'burnt documents'. All I can find is his Medal Card. |
