Any of you Perthshire folk run across:
Alexander Reid – age 23 – Private (2875552) 1st Battalion, Gordon Highlanders.
He was killed on 5 June 1940 during the retreat of the 51st Highland Division to St. Valery.
The Army RoH shows him as born Wigtownshire and resident in Perthshire but there are no Next of Kin details on CWGC.

presumably the same man as on the Kirkinner memorial? Given that first names often run in families in these parts, have you considered the gravestone in Kirkinner commemorating the death of Alexander Reid in 1971 in Kirkinner cemetery? Possibly his father, in which case his mother would have been Christina Hopkins. Might be worth checking the Canadian connection, perhaps the Canadian service record shows a son.

I'll have to dig into SPeople to see if they married here.
Thanks Paul

It looks as though they married in Canada (I can't find a marriage in the UK)
What I did find is that Alexander was born in Udny, Aberdeenshire and was one of four brothers killed during the war.
Doesn't help with my original question Rolling Eyes

Their marriage is on the Ontario register but I haven't got a date.
Must have been 1915/16 - a nice person with Ancestry could look it up Wink
